I recently created this alt. harmony/descant for stanzas 3-4 and it went over well with my smallish choir & congregation. Some modest text painting through alt. chords while keeping it firmly in C major. The text is from the Presbyterian hymnal, but IIRC several others use the same or similar. Feel free to use/adapt.
